The reason why the conveyor belt will be aged
2024-04-15 00:21In July of the previous year, our company shipped a 66-meter nylon conveyor with a bandwidth of 1000mm to a coal mine in Australia for the transmission and transportation of coal.
Nylon conveyor belt, the middle canvas is nylon canvas.
Nylon (NN) conveyor belt has the characteristics of thin belt body, high strength, impact resistance, good groove formation, strong inter-layer adhesion, excellent flexibility and long service life.
It is suitable for medium and long distances and high load capacity. , transporting materials under high-speed conditions, widely used in mining, coal fields, chemical industry, metallurgy, construction, ports and other departments.

During the using time of conveyor belt is prone to be aged of the rubber layer and fall off. After research by conveyor belt enterprises the following are some main reasons that lead the rubber of the conveyor belt to be aged:
1. Mechanical stress: under the repeated action of mechanical stress of the conveyor belt and the continuous friction with the roller which breaks the rubber molecule chain to generate free radicals, trigger an oxidation chain reaction and form the mechanochemical process. Mechanical breaking of molecule chain and the mechanical activation of oxidation process which takes more advantages, it depends on the condition.
2. Oxygen: oxygen reacts with rubber molecules in the rubber by free radical chain reaction, and the molecule chains break or are over-cross-linked, causing changes in rubber properties. The chemical activity of the ozone is much higher than oxygen, it is more destructive. It also make the molecule chain breakage but the effect of ozone on rubber various depending on whether the rubber is deformed or not. When used on deformed rubber(mainly unsaturated rubber), cracks appear perpendicular to the direction of stress, which is so called‘’ozone crack‘’,when used on the deformed rubber , only an oxide film is formed on the surface without cracking.
3. Heat: improve the temperature will cause the thermal cracking or thermal cross-linking of rubber. But the basic function of the hear is the activation. Increasing the oxygen diffusion rate and activate the oxidation reaction to increasing the oxidation reaction, therefore accelerating the rubber oxidation reaction rate. This is a common aged phenomenon- thermal oxygen aging. Factors affect rubber include chemical media, variable price metal ions, high-energy radiation, electricity and biology.
4. Light: The shorter the light ware, the greater the energy. Ultraviolet rays with high energy will destroy the rubber. Except the ultraviolet rays could directly causing the breakage and cross-linking of rubber molecule chains, ultraviolet rays also produce free radicals due to the absorption of light energy. Initiating and accelerate the speed of oxidation chain reaction process. Ultraviolet rays play the heating role, the light effect and other features(not the same effect as heat reaction) is that it mainly develops on the surface of rubber. Samples with high glue content will have network cracks on both sides, which are so-called ‘’light outer cracks‘’.
5. Moisture: the effect of moisture has two aspects: it is prone to get damaged when the rubber exposed to rain in humid air or soaked in water. This is because the water-soluble substances and water groups in the rubber are extracted and dissolved by water. Caused by hydrolysis or absorption. Especially under the alternating action of water immersion and atmosphere exposure will accelerate the damage of the rubber. But in some special condition moisture can not damage the rubber and may delay aging.
