Dealing with the slippage phenomenon of the steel cord conveyor belt

  In May 2022, our company shipped a 62-meter steel wire rope with a bandwidth of 1000mm to a port in Russia for the transportation and handling of heavy cargo.


  The steel wire conveyor belt is a rubber conveyor belt with steel wire as the skeleton. It has the advantages of high tensile strength, good impact resistance, long service life, small elongation in use, good groove formation, and good flexibility resistance. It is suitable for conveying materials over long distances, large distances, and high speeds. 


  This product is composed of core glue, steel wire rope, covering layer and edge glue. 


  Wire rope conveyor belts are suitable for material transportation under tear-proof conditions in coal mines, mines, ports, electric power, metallurgy, building materials and other industries. They can be used for long-distance, large-span, large-volume and high-speed material transportation.


  We often find that sometimes during the using time of steel cord conveyor belt, we occasionally find that in the operation. The steel cord conveyor belt will occur the slippage phenomenon. I will introduce you in details and give you the solutions for the slippage problem in the conveyor belt operation.


  1. Initial tension is too small. Insufficient tension at the point where the conveyor belt leaves the drum which makes the steel cord conveyor belt slippage. This kind of situation usually happens at the startup, the solution method is to adjust the tensioning device, increase the initial tension.


  2. The friction between the transmission roller and the conveyor belt will make slippage. Its main reason are mainly water on the conveyor belt or the environment is humid. The solution is to add some rosin powder to the drum, but be careful no to add it by hands, should use blowing equipment to avoid the personal accidents.


  3. The tail roller bearing is damaged and doesnt rotate or the upper and lower roller bearing are damaged too much to rotate. The reason caused the damage is the tail of the aircraft floated too much and the damaged or inflexible components rotate were not repaired in a timely manner which makes the resistance and caused the slippage.


  4. Starting too fast can also cause the slippage. At this time could stard it slowly.


  5. The overloading of conveyor belt is too much, exceed the electricity motor capacity will caused slippage too. This time the slippage is good for the electric motor that play the role of protecting. Otherwise, after a long time the electric motor could be burned.
