In February last year, our company shipped a 60m, 1000mm wide nylon conveyor belt to a coal mine in Australia for material transportation in the coal mine. 

  Nylon conveyor belt, the middle canvas is nylon canvas. 

  Nylon (NN) conveyor belt has the characteristics of thin belt body, high strength, impact resistance, good groove formation, strong inter-layer adhesion, excellent flexibility and long service life. It is suitable for medium and long distances and high load capacity. , transporting materials under high-speed conditions, widely used in mining, coal fields, chemical industry, metallurgy, construction, ports and other departments.

  Nylon conveyor belt has a wide application range in industrial production. The reason why it could has wide range of application fields successfully not only cause its high strength resistance, but also it could be used in extensively environment. There are two factors that need to be considered especially which are high temperature and low temperature environment. This article will discuss whether the nylon conveyor belt could suits for high or low temperature environment or not from the perspectives of the materials properties.

1. Characteristics of nylon materials

  Nylon conveyor belt is made of fiber processing, its material are mainly nylon 6 and nylon 66. This material with well-known strength and elasticity, it can withstand large forces without being destroyed. What’s more, the nylon material has slightly water absorbent, which makes it more adaptable to gradually changing of the humidity and temperature environment.  In addition, it can resist the corrosion and thermally stable, so it is safer to use.

2. The adaptable temperature range of nylon conveyor belt

  Nylon conveyor belt is sensitive to the ambient environment, so the user should consider carefully the effect of temperature. Currently, for the nylon productions, their industrial standards cover the temperature at which it could be used. Generally speaking, the using temperature is between -40℃and 120℃, it is relatively suitable using range that could be applied for most of production environments.

3. Nylon conveyor belt under a high temperature environment

  For high temperature environment, such as cloth manufacturing, glass manufacturing, steel refining and other fields, the using range will be very important for nylon conveyor belt. If under the high temperature condition, the temperature of nylon conveyor belt could reach 150℃, then, it will must be get a certain damaged. Because its material will become sticky and soft, and the strength will be effected to a certain extent. If it continues to use under the high temperature environment, will reduce the using life of the nylon conveyor belt. In a high temperature environment, the temperature above 150℃, the strength of nylon conveyor belt will decrease sharply may lead to breakage. Hence, during the using time should be avoided to exposure to the high temperature range.

4. Nylon conveyor belt in a low temperature environment

  In the low temperature environment, the rigidity of the nylon conveyor belt will be higher, but the elasticity and the toughness will decrease but its strength is still high. Thereby, in low temperature nylon conveyor belt could withstand the pressure and the weight well, but at the same time need to be pay attention to is that it could suffer from cold brittleness. At extremely low temperature, the material of its will be more brittle and strength decrease.

  In short, the applicability in the high and low temperature environment will related closely to its material characteristics and the ambient temperature of the nylon conveyor belt. Only using in the applicable range that its advantages be exerted, extending the service life meanwhile ensure the production will be more smoother.
